Gasoline Alley in the heart of Portland
Being a New Yorker, I have high standards when It comes to bars, as I expect the best. When I moved to Portland, I wasn't sure what to expect, but turns out, I wasn't disapointed. Kelly's Olympian is a bar and eatery on SE Washington avenue, downtown, and I really enjoyed it. Among the posh shops and restaurants, it's a stark contrast, yet it manages to blend in with it's glossy, neon decor. Old fashioned, neon- trimmed gasoline signs and classic model Harley Davidson motorcyles hang from the ceiling give it a sleek, "King of the Road" feel. There's even ample motocycle parking out front...in a city, who whoulda thunk it! A mix of classic, 80', 90's rock, rockabilly and punk music complete the mood. Their menu was also great..relatively cheap food, but not cheap on quality. Their portions are generous, and they serve breakfast, burgers, steaks, and various other entrees. (I had a BLT and fries for 5 bucks - can't beat that) The staff was also friendly, easy to talk to, entertainingcool.. and heavily tattoed =). Defintely my kind of place. However, it was a very good crowd..no rough stuff, but I wonder if it gets a little crazier at night. Various DJ's spin during the week, and there are live bands on the weekends. I will definetely have to go there on a weekend night.

Overall, it's a great place if you want to spend a few hours with friends, and some good, heavily-poured drinks. I felt very comfortable there, and I will definetely be going back. - Zorsha , posted 02/24/07
